How
to Get There
Cheap
flights to either Porto or Lisbon are available, if you live in the
UK, from RyanAir, Easy Jet and the Portuguese airline TAP-
but they are going to be more expensive during the peak holiday season.
Porto is nearer, but if you want to spend some time looking around Lisbon
then obviously Lisbon airport is for you. From the airports driving
to Casa Lagares will take two hours from Porto and two and a half hours
from Lisbon. Traffic outside the city rush hours is generally light;
Coimbra, the nearest big city, is linked by motorway to both Porto and
Lisbon. Having a hire car is highly recommended - it's difficult to
get around by public transport in rural areas. However, if you want
a trip to the Algarve, the train from Coimbra takes three or four hours.
For information about getting to the Algarve by train, visit the Portuguese
railways site. You can book trains online at very
reasonable prices (compared with Britain!).
If you particularly want to trave to Casa Lagarges by public transport,
by far the easiest way is to go to Porto airport, take the Metro to
the main train station and then take the fast train to Coimbra. Contact
